Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's initial trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from spring of that year.

The win also means he has won 21 victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first tour title, seized the initiative to create a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
